Embrace the Season of Candlelight

Embrace the Season of Candlelight

As the clocks fall back and evenings draw in, nothing says cosy quite like a candlelit corner. Few things create atmosphere — or a sense of occasion — quite like the soft flicker of a flame (not to mention that universally flattering golden glow). We don’t restrict our candle-burning to evenings, either. On dark, chilly mornings, there’s something joyful and luxurious about eating breakfast by candlelight.

Embrace the darkness with our considered collection of candleholders, beeswax candles and luminous accessories below…

Simple Silhouettes

Hand-crafted from fine bone china with a delicate, contemporary form, Feldspar’s Candelabra makes a striking centrepiece and holds its own in both minimal and maximalist interiors. Choose between Feldspar’s signature cobalt blue, forest green, geranium red or opulent gold detailing.

For a simpler statement, Feldspar’s Candleholder and Candlestick provide understated elegance with effortless versatility. Whether placed on the mantelpiece, dining table, or — if you’re feeling decadent — by the bath, they lend an easy, quiet luxury to any setting.

Inspired by the furrows of the earth, Jars Sillage Coquillage Candle Holder’s pleated form creates an interesting interplay with shadows and reflections.

Introduce some subtle colour with British Colour Standard’s jade green recycled glass candleholders. Crafted as the perfect partner to their Fair Trade dinner candles, we love how the bubble glass and jewel-like colour catches the light.

Playful Touches

Those seeking a pop of colour will love the floral-inspired silhouettes of the three-arm Tulip Candleholder and the single Irina Candleholder by ceramicist Laetitia Rouget. Available in a range of glorious colours, their playful, petal-like forms bring a joyful, sculptural note to any mantelpiece or dining table — spring’s optimism, reborn for autumn nights.

In fact, Laetitia Rouget is our go-to maker for pieces which add a touch of whimsy. The Eve Terracotta Candleholder, with its four arms and mischievous nod to the Garden of Eden, is both a talking point and a miniature work of art. Meanwhile, the Jose Dot Candleholder – a polka-dotted black-and-white horse – would deliver instant cheer to any home.

And for the delightfully unexpected? The Hard Shell Snail Candleholders are witty, sculptural, and guaranteed to raise a smile.

And when you want your space to shimmer, Danish brand Walther & Co’s Star Glass Candle Holder catches and multiplies every flicker – a constellation for your tabletop (and not just for Christmas).

The Perfect Flame

To show off your candleholders to best effect, you need, of course, the right candles. Five Bees Yard’s collection of colourful dinner candles are handmade in Hertfordshire from raw and natural beeswax to provide a long, even and clean burn. The Pink Rose Dinner Candles and Burgundy Red Tapers are perfect for autumn feasts and festive gatherings.

Choose their Aromatherapy Beeswax Tapers, hand-dipped using an ancient technique to achieve beautifully tactile candles which smell divine. The 20-Minute Candle Set contains  20 hand-dipped raw beeswax candles with a burn-time of 20-25 minutes each, together with a brass candleholder – perfect for your meditation, yoga or mindfulness practices.

When it comes to lighting your candles, we’re firmly in the match camp. Bonnecaze’s classic French match strike is a favourite – a charming nod to the café tables of late 19th- and early 20th-century France. Gauloises optional…
